How to spice up your reading adventures
Are you ready? I'm am going to make a list of 15 things you can do to 'spice up your reading adventures'. Ok... let's begin:
1. Is it snowing? Get your snow suit on and go read while sitting in the snow. Be careful not to get your book wet!
2. Eat. Try some new foods from the setting of your book. Eat them while you read. If it's set in France, go get coconut cake.
3. Are you eyes sore? Grab your phone and download an audio book. Listen to it as you do everyday things.
4. Go to the book store. You don't have to buy anything, just find a comfy corner and pick up a book to read. If you enjoy the book, buy it so that you can continue reading. Works especially well if there's a kids department with bean bag chairs.
5. Have to do chores? Grab a small book that you can hold with one hand so you can do your chores with the other hand. Don't get too lost in your book!
6. Go for a walk. Grab a book and go down to your favourite trail. Walk while reading. Watch out for the tree roots!
7. Morning time has come and you just want to finish your book but you have to get ready for the day. I feel your pain. Just read while you brush your teeth and comb your hair. I would advise to not read while washing your face but to each their own.
8. Go buy the colouring book pertaining to the book you're reading. (If there is one). Colour it and fall in love with the images of your favourite characters. I have one for the Selection and I love it!
9. Reading Slump? I always get these when I just finished a really great book because I believe that nothing will ever rise up to the level that book did. You just have to power through. Pick up the next book on your tbr list and read it. Give yourself a good amount of time set aside in your schedule for reading the book. Even when it gets boring just keep reading. (just keep swimming, just keep swimming)
10. Grab a bunch of friends that like reading and have sleep over with them where you stay up as late as your can and read as many books as you can. Fist one to fall asleep gets a book drawn on their face with eyeliner.
11. Do you like sticky notes, highlighters or make things pretty? When you read your next book, have highlighters and/or sticky notes beside you so that you can highlight and/or sticky any phrase or word that sticks out to you. Leave them in even after you finish the book and let a couple years pass. Go through the book again and see if your opinions have changed.
12. Go to a book store/library and find a fiction book with an ugly cover. Read the entire thing. If you don't like it, that's ok. But if you do, it teaches a valuable lesson, don't judge a book by it's cover.
13. Missing your childhood? Pick up one of this books you loved as a child and read it again. Sometimes it's neat reading book you loved as a child because now you pick up things that you would never have picked up as a child.
14. Bored with the books the books you have right now? I understand. Go to the book store/library and find a book that started with the letter C. It could be the title of the book (Caraval for example) or the first/last name of the author (Carey for example). Just have fun and read the book.
15. Do you have no reading friends? No one who shares your love of books? Contact Espresso Patronum and I through our Instagram (@the_readingcafe, just click on the link) and we would be more than happy to talk about books with you!
I hope you enjoyed this little post. I know I enjoyed making it. Most of these things are legitimate
advise but I would suggest that you do some carefully if you choose to take my advise. #15 I definitely suggest! We would love to hear from you!
Until next time

EPIC READS BOOK TAG
I know that the reading week post that I posted two weeks ago said that last week while I was on break I was going to try and read a book day. Let me tell you that when I wrote the post I was in a really good reading spell. I was reading everyday and finished 2 to 3 books a week. Once the first week of break came, I tried to read but I suddenly got into a reading funk. It took me a whole week to finish one book. I am still in my reading funk.
Anyways, for this weeks post I decided to do a book tag. The original tag was made by epic reads and the link can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdes8O-bHI0
IF YOU COULD INVITE ONE AUTHOR AND THEIR FICTIONAL CHARACTERS TO TEA, WHO WOULD YOU INVITE AND WHAT WOULD YOU SERVE THEM?
WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU LIKE A PREQUEL FOR?
WHAT BOOK MADE YOU A READER AND WHY?
YOUR BOOKSHELF JUST CAUGHT ON FIRE! WHAT ONE BOOK DO YOU SAVE AND WHY?
WHAT DYSTOPIAN WORLD WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE ONE AND WHY?
WHAT IS YOUR MOST EPIC READ OF ALL TIME?
Anyways, for this weeks post I decided to do a book tag. The original tag was made by epic reads and the link can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdes8O-bHI0
IF YOU COULD INVITE ONE AUTHOR AND THEIR FICTIONAL CHARACTERS TO TEA, WHO WOULD YOU INVITE AND WHAT WOULD YOU SERVE THEM?
I think it would be really cool to have tea (I would have coffee as I don't like tea) with J.K Rowling and the characters from Harry Potter. I would serve butterbeer and ask them to do a bunch of spells for me.
WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU LIKE A PREQUEL FOR?
I had to think long and hard about this one as there are many books I want a prequel for. I think I would want a prequel for perks of being a wallflower as it is one of my favourite books and I want more.
IF YOU RAN INTO YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR ON THE TRAIN AND COULD ONLY SAY ONE SENTENCE TO THEM, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
IF YOU RAN INTO YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR ON THE TRAIN AND COULD ONLY SAY ONE SENTENCE TO THEM, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
First reading this question, the only place that I could think of that has trains is England because where I am from there is no trains as transportation. In think of England got me think about J.K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Hogwart Express. The first thing I would say or I guess ask if she was planning on making books about the main characters but in the future or books about their kids going to hogwarts.
In school for english class we did a lot of reading. I remember in 6 grade, we had a racetrack and you got to move your car with the number of pages you have read and you would get a prize if you made it to the finish line. But those books I was more forced to read. The first book that I read for my own enjoyment and made me a reader was the twilight series a few years later.
Are you trying to making me suffer?!?! I have too many books and can't just choose one.
WHAT DYSTOPIAN WORLD WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE ONE AND WHY?
I would what to be part of the harry potter universe. I like it would be cool to be a wizard, cast spells and be friends with the famous trio.
I know I have said this for most of the questions but the Harry Potter series (even though I have not finished reading it). But I like the whole concept/plot of the series.
That is all for this weeks post and I will see you all next week.

My favourite book Quotes
Hey guys! Today I will be posting about my top 7 favourite book quotes. I thought of this idea because I love reading posts that help me understand blogger's personality a little bit more. Each of the quotes speak to me in some way, whether they make me laugh, it's something I would say or say something I needed to hear. So, let's get started!
1. "Now if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed or worse... expelled!" Hermione Granger (Harry Potter Series)
2. "I am not your dear!" America Singer (The Selection Series)
3. "Don't lie to a liar." Mare Barrow (Red Queen Series)
4. "We all have our weakness." Cinder
" I know, mines shoes" Iko (Cinder Series)
5. "There's more to life than staying safe." Donatella (Caraval)
6. "I am going to give you my heart now, please don't break it again" Abbey (The Hollow Series)
7. "I spent my life folded between the pages of books," Juliette (Shatter Me)
I hope you enjoyed this little post where you got to know me a little better. I think that the fact that there are only females on this list has something to say about who I connect with in books.
See you next week!

Book Outlet Haul
My addiction for buying new books has struck again. I got a gift card for christmas and decided to buy more books. I usually buy my books from book outlet because you can save a ton of money, and for me I buy books that I would not pick up. For this weeks post I am going to share with you what I got.
Bleed Like Me by Christa Desir
From the author of Fault Line comes an edgy and heartbreaking novel about two self-destructive teens in a Sid and Nancy-like romance full of passion, chaos, and dyed hair.
Seventeen-year-old Amelia Gannon (just "Gannon" to her friends) is invisible to almost everyone in her life. To her parents, to her teachers-even her best friend, who is more interested in bumming cigarettes than bonding. Some days the only way Gannon knows she is real is by carving bloody lines into the flesh of her stomach.
Then she meets Michael Brooks, and for the first time, she feels like she is being seen to the core of her being. Obnoxious, controlling, damaged, and addictive, he inserts himself into her life until all her scars are exposed. Each moment together is a passionate, painful relief.
But as the relationship deepens, Gannon starts to feel as if she's standing at the foot of a dam about to burst. She's given up everything and everyone in her life for him, but somehow nothing is enough for Brooks-until he poses the ultimate test.
Bleed Like Me is a piercing, intimate portrayal of the danger of a love so obsessive it becomes its own biggest threat.

Chelsea thought she knew what being a rock star was like... until she became one. After losing a TV talent show, she slid back into small-town anonymity. But one phone call changed everything
Now she’s the lead singer of the band Melbourne, performing in sold-out clubs every night and living on a bus with three gorgeous and talented guys. The bummer is that the band barely tolerates her. And when teen heartthrob Lucas Rivers take an interest in her, Chelsea is suddenly famous, bringing Melbourne to the next level—not that they’re happy about that. Her feelings for Beckett, Melbourne’s bassist, are making life even more complicated.
Chelsea only has the summer tour to make the band—and their fans—love her. If she doesn’t, she’ll be back in Michigan for senior year, dying a slow death. The paparazzi, the haters, the grueling schedule... Chelsea believed she could handle it. But what if she can’t?
TESSA IS A VARIANT, able to absorb the DNA of anyone she touches and mimic their appearance. Shunned by her family, she’s spent the last two years training with the Forces with Extraordinary Abilities, a secret branch of the FBI.
When a serial killer rocks a small town in Oregon, Tessa is given a mission: she must impersonate Madison, a local teen, to find the killer before he strikes again.
Tessa hates everything about being an impostor - the stress, the danger, the deceit - but loves playing the role of a normal girl. Disguised as Madison, she finds friends, romance, and the kind of loving family she’d do anything to keep.
Amid action, suspense, and a ticking clock, this super-human arrives at a very human conclusion: even a girl who can look like anyone struggles the most with being herself.
Diamond knows not to get into a car with a stranger.
But what if the stranger is well-dressed and handsome? On his way to meet his wife and daughter? And casting a movie that very night—a movie in need of a star dancer? What then?
Then Diamond might make the wrong decision.
It’s a nightmare come true: Diamond Landers has been kidnapped. She was at the mall with a friend, alone for only a few brief minutes—and now she’s being held captive, forced to endure horrors beyond what she ever could have dreamed, while her family and friends experience their own torments and wait desperately for any bit of news.
From New York Times bestselling author Sharon Draper, this is a riveting exploration of power: how quickly we can lose it—and how we can take it back.
Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).
Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.
The perfect soldier is done taking orders.
Sixteen-year-old Tegan is just like every other girl living in 2027—she's happiest when playing the guitar, she's falling in love for the first time, and she's joining her friends to protest the wrongs of the world: environmental collapse, social discrimination, and political injustice.
But on what should have been the best day of Tegan's life, she dies—and wakes up a hundred years later, locked in a government facility with no idea what happened.
The future isn't all she had hoped it would be, and when appalling secrets come to light, Tegan must make a choice: Does she keep her head down and survive, or fight for a better world?
Award-winning author Karen Healey has created a haunting, cautionary tale of an inspiring protagonist living in a not-so-distant future that could easily be our own.

I have finished this book right away as soon as I got it. When the books came in, I had just finished the book I was reading and was looking for a book to read. I looked in the box full of new books and decided to read this one. I won't give to much away incase you decide to read it and incase in the future I write a review on it. All I can say is that I really enjoyed this book and was not expecting the ending.
40 Things That I Want To Tell You by Alice Kuipers
Amy (a.k.a. Bird) seems to have the perfect life: loving parents, a hot boyfriend, the best friend ever. She even writes an online advice column, full of Top Tips, to help other teens take control of their lives. But after a new guy shows up at school, Bird can’t seem to follow her own wisdom.
Pete is the consummate bad boy. He’s everything Bird is not: wild, unambitious and more than a little dangerous. Although she knows he’s trouble, Bird can’t stay away. And the more drawn she is to Pete, the more cracks are revealed in her relationship with Griffin, her doting boyfriend. Meanwhile, her parents’ marriage is also fracturing, possibly for good.
Bird is way out of her comfort zone. All it takes is one mistake, one momentary loss of control, for her entire future to be blown away . . .

The total cost was $49.31 with shipping and I saved almost $65. If you are looking to buy new books but don't want to break the bank then definitely give book outlet a try.
That is it for this weeks post and Im sorry it is not super exciting and interesting but next weeks post I promise will be better.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Caravel by Stephanie Garber is a tale that I don’t even know how to describe without basically spoiling the entire thing. It is about two sisters who escape from their ruthless father. They come to Caraval, a magical place where its motto is "remember it's only a game". They get separated, and we follow Scarlet as she searches for her sister while finding herself along the way.
The plot is so complex. Sometimes, I was a little bit confused as to what was happening. But, as soon as my brain started to put the pieces together, it totally made sense. Throughout the book, I tried to guess at what was going to happen next, who the person was, what they were going to do. For the most part I failed, miserably. The characters in the book were very well developed. I could definitely see Scarlett evolving throughout the book. You could see how the ups and downs were affecting her.
Now, let’s talk about the physical details of the book. First, the spine. The spine was very solid and wouldn’t open properly. Although it was a minuscule problem because I still got to read the book, it was a bit of a pain. The spine would also creak sometimes because it was opened. But as I said, minuscule. The cover is absolutely stunning. I’m not sure if you saw it in Espresso Patronum’s Owl Crate unboxing but it is gorgeous.
Even when the jacket was taken off the book, the hardcover had a simple tear drop in the bottom right corner. It just made the book feel even more special. Inside the book, there is a map. I love it when there are maps, then you can look back at the map to discover where the places the characters go are. Also, there are letters in the book. I like the letters because they give a unique way to storytelling. The book is divided into 8 sections, and each of those sections has a 2 page design of flowers. It looks very pretty. On every chapters there is a line on the right side on the page of the same flowers. It’s the little things that make the book all the better.
Now that I have told to all the non-spoiler things, go read the book before joining me down below while I talk about the details of the book.

Welcome to the spoiler section! I hope that everyone reading this has read to book already or just wants to spoil most of the important parts for themselves. In this section I will be going over the parts of the book that stood out to me.
The very first chapter made me laugh. All it says is “It took seven years to get the letter right”. I don’t know why I found it that funny that it only had one sentence, but I did. (anybody else, nope?) The letters that Scarlet wrote to Legend were cute. They remind me of letters that I’m sure all of the average day famous bands and singers get from their fans on a regular bases. And for a second, I thought that this was just going to be another dumb famous person falling in love book. Boy, I could not have been more wrong. When Scarlet got the letter and the tickets, I kind of got excited with her. I don’t think I have ever fallen in love with a character that fast. Skipping ahead a couple minutes, when Scarlet and Donatella’s father found them in the cellar. My heart was beating and I almost instantly hated Donatella for lying. Then I hated Julian as well for lying. But, when the father hurt Donatella, I understood why Donatella lied. To protect her sister. I liked Donatella again, but I still hated Julian because he lied without knowing why. Blind obedience. The next part that I think is important is the kidnapped. What? I was so confused. I was just rocking back and forth in my seat, trying to figure out why they needed to get her off the island. I get the abusive father and all but she didn’t want to leave. Scarlet wanted to get married to her fiance. But I gave up trying to understand at this moment and continued reading. I came to the part where they had to hop off the boat. When Scarlet was drowning and Julian helped take of the dress, that’s when I started to ship Scarlian. (my love for Julian, and Julian and Scarlet’s relationship has many ups and downs throughout this book.) Skip the coldness and the finding the way into Caraval. We now come to when they got the magical changing clothes. This is when I started to see the Caraval magic. I just think these are so cool! I want them! My next destination is when Scarlett is in the inn while Julian is locked outside. “He’s going to freeze!” I yelled at the book. I could feel myself getting very attached to this book. And then, when Scarlet and Julian got separate room keys, but they lead to the same room. I just shook my head. Laughing. But as Julian proceeded take the bed, I flipped. That’s Then when, Scarlet passes by Donatella’s room and hears Donatella. I was ripped between wanting Scarlet to open the door or listen Donatella and not open the door. But then they moved on. And we met Dante. The gentleman who let’s Scarlet take his bed. He was sweet.
After sunset, (or was it before?) Scarlet found the first clue in Donatella’s room because everybody else bypassed it. It was a picture card of Castillo Maldito. It shows how well Scarlet knows Donatella. I also liked the flashback, it provided a little bit of cuteness. Then, they found the second clue, the man. I found the way he “told her fortune” very interesting. It intrigued me how he could tell what she was thinking by where her eyes landed. Another thing that intrigued me about this encounter is the fact that Scarlet thought about something else before her sister, who was the entire reason she was here. The third clue was “The boy with the black heart”, who was Dante. My heart was thumping fast as I read. Questions were running through my head. Who’s the boy with the black heart? Is it Julian? I had no idea that it was Danta, (a time where my guessing skills failed), I thought it was so cool that the clues were using his body art. Honestly, my mind was working the same way as Scarlet’s was. I thought it had to be Julian! I didn’t make sense for it to be anybody else, but, alas I was wrong. What can you expect from me?! This book has too many plot twists! The fourth clue will cost you something valuable. What! I don’t want the Scarlet to have to give up anything more for her sister! She’s given up. It kind of is making me feel like a bad sister. I’ve never given up half the stuff she’s already had to give up and I’m only HALFWAY through the book. Aiko, Caraval’s historiographer, said that if Scarlet buys two dresses, she can see the history of Caraval. So, she went to the dress shop and was told that for payment of the two dresses, she must tell them her greatest fear and her greatest desire. Okay, that’s not that bad, right? Scarlet puts her hands on this lie detector kind of thing, and she says her greatest fear “that something will happen to her sister”. It’s not a lie to the lie detector thingy. So far so good. Next she has to tell her greatest desire, easy right? “To see her sister”, but then, the lie detector doesn’t take it. Instead, Scarlet is forced to sacrifice two days of her life in payment for the dress. Little did she know, the two days that those two days were going to be taken off, starting now. Aiko tells Scarlet to rush back to the inn and she will come in her dream things to show her the history. When Scarlet arrives back at the inn, her and Julian share a moment of them bonding. Julian takes his a day off his own life and gives it to Scarlet. My emotions skyrocket, intimacy, Scarlian! Ahhh! Then, they go up to the room, and, well, die for twenty-four hours. While she’s dead, she like Aiko promised, she got to see the history of Caraval. It shows a Julian in a top hat, going to a funeral. Scarlet’s mind immediately went to, Julian is Legend! And I can’t say I disagree with this thought. I mean all the evidence points to him. Then she wakes up. Embarrassed that she shared a bed with Julian, who she is not engaged to, she jumps out of bed. When reaches the door, she opens it. And you’ll never guess who she sees, her father! Plot twist! Guess who’s got daddy problems now? As Julian (or should I say, Legend?) wakes up, he goes somewhere. In order to escape her demonic father, again, she flees to the tunnels, where she sees Julian standing over a dead Dante. Obviously, Scarlet was like “what?” and it only heightened the feeling that Julian was in fact Legend. And my need for the relationship lessened. Julian just laughed when Scarlet told him of her suspicions. Of course he wasn’t Legend. He proceeded to tell Scarlet a brief summary of Legend’s past with her Grandmother and Legend’s vow to destroy relationships that are from her line. Although I still have my doubts, Scarlet eats it up. They make it back to their room and find a wedding dress. Convinced that this is her fifth clue, Scarlet puts it on. The fifth clue needs a leap of faith. Scarlet has herself convinced that the next clue is in the hat store. Julian say it’s not, but Scarlet is a lot more opinionated now in the book then she was before, and insists that it is. (btw she’s wrong) They go to the hat shop and the hatter it unpleasant. Julian being the jealous guy he is, got defensive and told that hatter to leave his fiance alone. But, the hatter is Scarlet’s fiance. What? The count? Is that you? To make matters worse, Scarlet’s father was with him. Julian turned, pulling Scarlet with him and they ran. Then they got on a boat, and go in the castle where they found the second clue. They escaped the brutal father. Skipping ahead a little bit, Julian just got his face mutilated by Scarlet’s father, who he will be “sharing” a room with while the Count (Scarlet’s fiance) is supposedly taking Scarlet to his suite to “enjoy what he bought” (not my words). Scarlet turns to her fiance, the count, and boldly says “Do you really want a bride who will only sleep with you because another man will be tortured if she doesn’t?” Yes girl! Finally! Scarlet’s character is finally understands that she has to make decisions for herself, her father is not always right. In fact, in my opinion, he is nearly always wrong. (like when he drowned that poor boy). Anyway, the count agrees and tell Scarlet’s father that the deal is off if he doesn’t let Julian go. After that ordeal, Scarlet and the count are in his room together. And he strips. Scarlet looks for anyway to stop him from forcing her to do this when she remembers the elixir of protection. I forgot about that! Remember, she got it from She goes to get it from the closet and guess who tumbles out? Julian! He’s here! Scarlet dumps the potion on the count. Julian and Scarlet race to the tunnel before exiting the tunnels by the carousel. They go to the carousel in broad daylight. Here’s where the leap of faith comes in, Scarlet has to leap off the carousel into a pit. She meets Legend there. Julian comes down the stairs. He explains how he was actually working for Legend the entire time. Argh! How could you Julian? I loved you! And once again, plot twist! Before Legend stabs Julian. Scarlet holds Julian’s dying body in her hands. Until he’s completely gone, Legend is too. But he leaves a note, inviting Scarlet to Donatella’s funeral. Can a punch him?
Scarlet goes up a ladder, which leads her to her sister. Her sister who fell in love with Legend. Oh my word! Please stop! No! Listen to Scarlet, Donatella! Donatella proceeds to jump of the balcony. I nearly shut the book, stopped reading. Their father is in the room now, along with the count. It appears that Scarlet has become more bold because she stands up to her father. And I’m loving it! Here’s another plot twist! The Legend that ran this game isn’t the real Legend! Dun dun dun! He is just a performer who works for Legend. Wow! I was surprised! Oh! And Julian is not dead? He explains how the real Legend is his brother and then asks for a second chance. I forgive his past mistakes, apparently so does Scarlet as they kiss. Aw, all smiles here! And that’s a wrap on an excellent book. But there’s an epilogue! Personally, I felt that the book was tied off neatly. I thought the epilogue would just be spurt in the future. No, Stephanie Garber decided that we needed more letters. Except for this time, the letters were from Donatella to Legend. Apparently, Donatella created the whole thing to get Scarlet to be more brave. In the last scenes, we read that their mother, who mysteriously vanished / ran away / something like that, is contact with Donatella. And she wants to meet.
If you thought this was the end, you were wrong (don’t worry, I’m in the same boat). This is just the beginning. Or so I hope! I really, really, really hope that Stephanie Garber doesn’t leave her fans hanging like this. That she writes a sequel. I also hope that you enjoyed this review, I know I enjoyed writing it! Thanks for reading!

Reading Week and Reading Challenge Update
Hey guys how are you this week? I am doing really good. At the begening of the year, I thought that reading 50 books by the end of the year would be a hard task to do. But 3 months later and I am almost half way there. The last few weeks I have been reading 2-3 books per week. I am also happy that only 2 of the books on my reading challenge list is rereads. If you look on my list you will see that I have stared to read the Series of Unfortunate Events books. As a child I did not go up reading this series and same with the Harry Potter Series. Now as an adult, I am just starting to read these series. But the thing is I am not really good with finishing series. I started the Harry Potter series last summer and only got to the third book before stopping. The same thing is happening now with the Series of Unfortunate Events books. I only have 3 books left but right now I don't feel like finishing them. I sometimes get bored with series. I am the type of person who once I start a series I like to read them back to back and I usually don't read any other books during this time and because I read them back to back, I get bored of the series and stop to read other books and don't pick the series back up. I am hoping by the end of the summer to finish the Harry Potter series and the Series of Unfortunate Event books.
At my school after midterm exams, we get a week off. So next week I have a week off of school. I thought I would challenge myself and try to read a book a day which would add about 9 books to my reading challenge list. I am calling this week reading week. I am also challenging myself further by reading books off my tbr list. I wrote the names of books from my tbr list and put them in a cup and everyday I will pull out a name and read that book. If you want to see what books I am reading during that week, you can look on our instagram where I will be post a photo every day on what book I am reading. Our instagram is @the_readingcafe.

Throw Back Thursday!
I'm so sorry that I'm late, but I've been so busy this week. I didn't have time to do anything fancy like Expresso Patronum and artsy post! But, I will try my best to satisfy you. So, for this blog post, I decided to do a throw back! Sounds fun right? I will be talking about my favourite childhood books. Without further ado, let's get right into it!
1. Junie B Jones. I literally own all of these books. These were one of my four absolute favourite series growing up. I think I was because I didn't have it in me to be the mischievous little girl that Junie B was. I got to life the life of a "bad girl" through her experiences.
2. The Rainbow Fairies. As I child, it was my dream to own all of these books. But, unfortunately, though I have many of them, there were way too many to be able to get them all. And, they're still making more! These books helped me find my inner fantasy. (Which, by the way, if you didn't know, is now one of my favourite book genres) This book series is also on my three absolute favourite series growing up list.
3. Magic Tree House. I still have a bin of these books sitting in my basement. This is the third series on my absolute favourite series growing up. These books, just like The Rainbow Fairies, helped me to find my love for fantasy. When I was growing up, I would intently stare at the page, reading the words over and over again in my head. Willing them to be true. I know that was ridiculous, but what can I say? I was five.
4. Thea Stilton. These books have thrilling tales (for a five year old) and pretty pictures. I didn't have as many of these as I would've like but I had enough to keep me enjoyed. This series is the final series on my absolute favourite series growing up list. As a child, these books held my captive with their pretty imagery. The big words have different font and colour.
5. Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots? This book is a stand alone book that I made my mom read to my over and over and over again. Now, we can both recite the entire book for memory. I loved this book then, simply because it was funny. I still love this book because of its humour but I also love it because it is teaching little girls that princesses are just like us, they do all the same things as us.
I hope you enjoyed!

Bookish DIY *kinda fail
Hey guys. You are probably looking at the title and wondering why I put kinda fail. Well for this weeks post I wanted to do something fun an exciting. I thought doing a DIY would be a good idea, but it did not turn out the way I wanted to which you will see later in this post.
I had no idea wanted to do. I want to the dollar store and looked around to see if I could get any ideas. I was in the art section and notice some blank canvases. It then gave me an idea to do the melted crayon art. So I bought the canvas and the rest of the supplies and went home to get started.
Materials I used:
- Book (old or new, I bought a book at the dollar store for $1)
-Scissors
- 11 by 14 canvas
- 2x 24 pack of crayons
-computer and printer
-xacto knife
-ruler
-paint brush or sponge
-white school glue
-painters tap
-Paint
My first idea was to cut out a silhouette of a book character uses one of the pages of the book. For this idea I was either going to use alice from alice in wonderland or peter pan. But then I had a better idea.
Step one: I don't have the neatest writing so I went on to the computer and found a really nice bubble front and used the front to write "we accept the love we think we deserve" from perks of being a wallflower. After I had printed it out, I traced the letters onto a blank page from the book. Then I used an xacto knife to cut out the letters. Tracing out letter and cutting them out was probably the longest parts of the project.
Step two: Using a ruler, I lined up where I wanted my text to go and glued it down. I did not want it to close to the top so the crayons had a bit of room to melt and I also did not want it to close to the bottom or else the crayon would not melt around it. As you can see in the picture bellow there is some bubbles and there will be some bubbles when glueing the rest of the canvas, but don't worry it will go away when dry. When I saw the bubbles, I thought "what have I got my self into", and was rejected the decision to be artsy for this weeks post.
Step three: Next I took out pages from the book and cut them into different sizes and shape. Then I glued them around the text so the overlapped each but does not cover over the text. I let it dry and cut off overhang paper around the edges.
Step four: The next step was to figure out what colours I wanted from the box of crayola crayons I bought. I used almost every colour except beige, brown, and black. After that I had to take the wrapper off all the crayons. The task was a little tricky but i found that an xacto knife makes it easier.
Now they way I organized me crayons is I put one white on each end then I started with pink fading into red then fading into to purple then to blue then green, then fading into yellow and lastly orange. I put two of the same colour beside each other and followed this patterned. Another idea would be start at red or whatever colour you choose and go all the way to orange and then go from orange to red again so you will have red on both ends.
Step five: After you find the colours you want and what order, you glue them on with a hot glue gun but be careful because the hot glue can melt the crayon. Once you glued them on it comes to the fun part which is heated the crayons up. This is the part the kinda turned it into a fail but also added to my picture. I was looking in the tool room for any painters tape but I could not find any. I looked through the other tapes that I had to find one the was not to sticky and would not come off after I melted the crayons or was going to rip my art. I found a tape that I thought was going to work but it was not sticky enough and kept peeling. Anyways once you found tape, the next step is to tape over the quote so no crayon gets on it. once that is done it is time for the next step
Step six: Next it is time to heat up the crayons. The best way to do this is using a hair dryer. This part takes a bit of time before the crayons get hot enough to start melting. I tried to blend the colours as much as possible. While doing this step because the tape was not sticky enough the crayon was melting underneath the tape and when I peeled the tape some of the letters got crayon on it. Right away I rubbed the crayon off which did give colour around the letters on the blank paper that could not be cover with the paper with text on it but I also stained the letters a bit and I was making it hard to read. Now I would have gotten a photo of this kinda fail but I was so stressed and worked up on trying to fix it that by the time I remembered I had already in mid processes of the next step.
Step seven: The last step, which you might not even need if you did not mess up like I do, is fixing your kinda fail. The way I did this is paint over the letters with red paint and you have to be really careful not to get paint outside the letters. Once it is dry your bookish DIY is finished.
I hope you liked this weeks post. Leave a comment down below of other bookish DIY's you would like me to try. If you want to see the final product from this post, head over to our instagram @the_readingcafe

A to Z Books
Expresso Patronum did a blog post similar to this a couple weeks ago but I'm bringing it back, with a small twist. This week has been busy so I haven't had a lot a time to work on a post so this will be simple but I hoping it still keeps you entertained. This is about books and I will include a picture of the book, so enjoy!
